Thank You!

The Volunteers/Members of WAAGR would like to thank you for considering one (or more than one) of our displaced Goldens for adoption! We would like to make the experience of adopting from WAAGR a great one!
Please be aware that it is a process which is detailed more fully on the adoption application.

Please note: Not all foster dogs available are currently pictured on this Web site.

Maybe you’re still considering what type of Golden to adopt. Why not a senior Golden? For Goldens, this is age 8 and older.

WAAGR is based in southeast Wisconsin.

In order to best serve our available Goldens and our adoptive families, our adoption area includes southeast Wisconsin, the Fox Cities/Green Bay, and the Madison area. Theses are areas where we have volunteers available to do home visits. We appreciate your understanding.

How a Golden Retriever finds its way to WAAGR

Golden Retrievers lose their homes for many reasons. Perhaps their energy is just too much for the former owners. Sometimes life circumstances change so dramatically that the former owners must re-home them for the sake of the dog. Health issues play a part in some of the decisions. Some families don’t realize the time commitment they are making when they get that cute little puppy. Whatever the reason, we are there to help.

Before a Golden Retriever is taken into WAAGR, a thorough temperament test is administered. From there, the Golden is placed in a foster home where it will live for a minimum of two weeks so we can get a good idea of its personality. The golden will be examined by a veterinarian and will be brought up-to-date on all vaccinations, tested for heartworm, and spayed or neutered. For some Goldens, this will be their first time being allowed in a house. Our foster families will work with them on their house manners and basic commands. We will always give an honest evaluation of the Golden, good and bad!

The first step in the adoption process is for you to make sure you’re ready for a lifetime commitment! Depending on the age and health of the Golden, this commitment could mean 15 years or more! It would be unfair for your family and the Golden if you can’t make this commitment. If you think this is the right decision for you and your family, please fill out our adoption form!

There is a $25.00 application fee.

Please mail in your completed WAAGR Adoption Application (from the link at the top of the page) to our address on the forms with check made out to WAAGR in the amount of $25.00. The app fee supports this website and care of our dogs.

Thank you for your interest in our Goldens.

WAAGR’s main goal is to find appropriate, loving, forever homes for the dogs who may otherwise suffer abuse or death. WAAGR reserves the right to deny or rescind any adoption application or adoption for any reason.
