Wisconsin Adopt A Golden Retriever, Inc.

Providing Bright New Beginnings To Displaced Golden Retrievers

Adopt Me!

Please note: The goal of WAAGR is to match Goldens with their forever families. If you are interested in adopting a Golden through WAAGR, please return to the previous Adopt Me! page.  There you will find out more information on adopting, including the adoption application.

Below are some of the dogs that are currently in the WAAGR Adoption Program.

Clancey - #946
Clancey is an 8 to 9-year-old Golden who came to us as a stray from northern Wisconsin.  He is one happy guy!  He gets along great with the other dogs in his foster home.  He loves to express his feelings by barking.  He does pull on a leash, but we are working with him on that!

Since Clancey was on his own for a while, he will get the full doggy spa treatment while he's with us.  He will also be neutered and get his teeth cleaned.  He will be ready for adoption around April 28.  Because he is a stray he can't go to a family with kids under 12.  If you would like to find out more about Clancey, contact WAAGR today.

Whitey - #1006
My name is Whitey and I came from a home that didn’t teach me anything about how to behave.  Unfortunately I was was crated for 22 hours a day.  I was allowed to potty inside and never saw the outside much.  I had to fend for my food.  My foster mom has been great at teaching me to share my toys!  I am 2 years old.

Since I have been in foster care, I have learned to potty outside, sit for my food, and not to chew anything!  I mostly do well about counter surfing (still working on that), and come when called.  I love all the attention and curling up on the couch with my foster dad - belly rubs are the best!  I can now handle my toes being cut, but still really don’t like my feet touched.

I’m a great jumper and full of energy.  My foster mom thinks I still need training (not me), as I guess I’m still learning how to behave around other dogs.  I’m now allowed out of the crate all day - this is the best part about my progress.  I have gotten along with everyone in the house while my parents are away, so every day that I’m good, I have a free crate day!  I do, however; like to be top dog in the house.  I have learned how to swim now that the weather is warm.  We have been out for long walks picking food that is in season here.  My foster parents have taught me what to look for and I hear raspberries are coming soon.  I can’t wait!  The asparagus so far is the best.  I do love house plants too, now my foster mom keeps them out of sight and reach.

Four days a week I get to go running with my new pack in the mornings and this is a great start to the day.  I love watching the birds fly over and try to chase them in the yard, but no luck at getting them yet.

From Whitey's foster family:  We are looking for a forever home that has a large yard to play in and someone that can take her for walks where she can be off leash to run.  She has not been cat tested at this time.  Whitey is a mix; personality shows a Golden with a Springer.

She's updated on vaccinations, mircrochipped and spayed.  Contact WAAGR to find out more!

Faith - #1038
Faith came to us from a shelter that euthanizes after five days, so we were happy to help her out!  She's a 2-year-old black Golden mix.  She is a sweet girl, but she has those puppy instincts!  Mouthing is a problem, as is chasing your feet as you walk.  She's working hard on breaking those habits though.

Faith loves attention and gets along very well with other dogs.  A home without cats also is on her wish list.  If you would like to know more about this beautiful girl, contact WAAGR!

Gersey - #1030
Gersey is a 9-year-old owner surrender to WAAGR.  She was owned by one woman most of her life.  We found out she was not much of a traveler, so Gersey is content to stay home.  She would do well in a home where she can have a similar life, as she becomes quite anxious away from home.

Here are some other things we have found out about her.  She enjoys the company of bigger dogs as opposed to little ones.  She likes men, women, children and cats.  She is on a premium diet, glucosamine, fish oil, and 100 mg Rimadyl a day.  Poor Gersey tore her ACLs on both knees and the injuries were never repaired.  With her diet, supplements and Rimadyl, she can now run and play, climb stairs, and really enjoy her life.  Surgical repair is no longer an option for this girl.

She is spayed, updated on vaccinations and microchipped.  If you would like to know more about this girl, contact WAAGR.

Bandit - #1068
There isn't enough space to talk about Bandit!
Bandit is a black Lab mix who rescued from an Illinois shelter. Anne called and asked for help for this "SHY - SCARED" 11- month-old dog.  Well, Bandit arrived!  Poor Bandit, he was so nervous for about five minutes!

Bandit is a playful, happy sort of guy that feels everything that isn't nailed down (and even that stuff) belongs in his mouth!  His list of finds includes buckets, plastic drainage tubes off the gutters, sponges, leashes, bowls, paper, blinds, wall board...and the list goes on and on!  As happy as he is, Mom doesn't think it is funny!

We have decided that Bandit would love to be an outdoor dog.  When it is time to come in he will just lay in the yard and in the house he just doesn't seem happy!  We think that's because there isn't anything left to chew.  Bandit would love a family that lives on a farm or has a big
fenced in yard with other doggies to play with.

Don't get us wrong, he has the best personality!  He's a little mouthy at times, but is happy-go-lucky, fun to watch, and he doesn't have a mean bone in his body.  With the right family he would be a great dog.  His  forever home would need patience and be willing to take him to doggy school!  He is a big goof!

Sadie - #1080
This little chocolate drop came into WAAGR with her "sister" Lacey.  She's a 6-year-old Chocolate Labrador.  Our little lady is housetrained, cratetrained, and has excellent house manners.  She wrote the book on "polite!" Sadie is lower energy, perfect for a laid back family. Sadie, like so many of us, is on a diet to shed some weight, and recapture an attractive waistline.  She's the perfect walking companion on your road to health and fitness!

 Lacey - #1081
Our Lacey, along with her "sister" Sadie, had one too many breakfasts in bed!  Lacey is a 6-year-old Golden Retriever.  They are both seen in this picture waiting for "room service."
"Foster Fitness Camp" is seeing to it that these girls eat less and move more.  The good news is that it doesn't cost a cent to eat less!  Lacey is already showing more energy with her weight loss, and is enjoying exploring the yard, and going for walks.  Lacey's coat was clipped short, but is quickly growing back.

Buddy - #1029
Buddy just turned 6 years old in July.  He is a smart, very loving Golden who weighs about 64 pounds and is in great shape.  He likes to play ball, ride in the car, go for walks, and sit by your side or cuddle.  He is house trained, walks well on a leash and is crate trained.

Buddy knows a number of commands such as sit, down, come, and drop.  He is a higher energy golden that will need exercise daily.  He loves to play ball!  Buddy loves people, is very friendly and gets along well with children.  He gets along with larger breeds, but can be a bit rough with smaller dogs/animals if left unsupervised.  When we found Buddy he had a number of dental issues which are now resolved. He is missing a few teeth, but that does not bother him in the least! Overall, Buddy is a joy to have around and a great Golden.

Lexie - #1085
“I once was lost, but now am found!”  Now I’m waiting for you!The vet said I was five years old, although I tried to tell him that I’m a youthful four.  My foster mom says I’m laid back and very sweet.  She understands that I had a good home at one time because I am perfectly house trained and have nice manners if I do say so myself.  I’ll enjoy keeping you company on car rides, hikes, or just sitting by your easy chair.  For now, I’ll just lie here by the door and wait for you to come and take me home with you.
